WORLD LEADERS OF MODERN TRANSMISSION INTEGRATION

THE FUTURE IS HERE

The advancements in modern transmission controllers have revolutionized the possibilities for vehicle enthusiasts and professionals alike. Controllers like the CANformance CANTCU, Turbolamik 8HP Controller, and MaxxECU product line allow seamless integration of sophisticated modern transmissions into virtually any vehicle, providing cutting-edge performance at a much lower cost than a sequential. MaxxECU products can even control both the engine and transmission at the same time!

These systems enable the integration of transmissions such as:

  • BMW 7-speed Dual Clutch (DCT)

  • ZF 8-speed (8HP)

  • VAG Dual Clutch (DSG)

  • And many more!

With these controllers, the precise and lightning-fast shifts of modern transmissions eclipse a manual or outdated auto, offering unparalleled performance for both street and track applications. Key features like Automatic Mode, Trans Brake and Virtual Clutch enhance the driving experience, whether you're aiming for improved car control on track, or a refined, OEM-like integration for getting there.

This technology is ideal for enthusiasts looking to:

  • Modernize classic cars with state-of-the-art transmission capabilities.

  • Maximize performance on the track with quicker, more consistent shifting.

  • Enjoy the comfort and efficiency of seamless gear transitions in daily drivers.

Two Types of Controllers

Standalone Controllers
Standalone style controllers, like the Turbolamik, require internal wiring modifications. This is done so every sensor and solenoid connection is rerouted and hardwired directly to the external controller instead of through the original internal TCU. This level of control unlocks advanced features, including:

  • Virtual Clutch: Simulates manual clutch control, allowing for clutch-like operation without a traditional clutch.

  • Full Transmission Control: Customize every parameter of the transmission's operation, ideal for racing or bespoke setups.

Gateway Controllers
Gateway style controllers, like the CANTCU and MaxxECU, take a different approach by manipulating the data the transmission's original internal TCU receives to make it operate as intended. They are an intermediary between the vehicle's systems (ECU, BCM, PDM, etc.) and the transmission, tricking the transmission into thinking its still in its original home. As such, this approach retains factory features of the transmission.

Recent updates from CANTCU have introduced new features, such as:

  • Performance calibration flashing for more performance over OEM tunes

  • Firmware and code virginizing flashing capabilities

Recent updates from MaxxECU have introduced exciting features, including:

  • Trans-Brake: Perfect for drag racing applications.

  • Virtual Clutch: Enabled via transmission flashing, eliminating the need for internal soldering.

These controller are still enabling powerful new capabilities, the MaxxECU system could possibly the most powerful option we offer now, considering it can control your engine at the same time as well- All via one software; MTune

The Best of Both Worlds

With new-age control of transmissions we can offer the best of both the Auto/DCT and conventional manual transmission driving experiences. All of the controllers can be configured to change from a strictly manual shifting mode, to an "auto" mode with the flip of a switch. Other exciting features include, but are not limited to: Configurable launch control, electronic trans-brake, electronic torque converter control, "virtual" clutch by wire, configurable CAN channels, and more.

Shift inputs can be configured in an almost infinite amount of ways including using the OEM shifters, paddle shifters, CAN keypads, buttons, sequential style shifters, and more. All can be combined to create the driving experience you were dreaming about.

Clutch by Wire is extremely fun. By installing a sensor on an existing clutch pedal, using a electronic throttle pedal as a clutch, or just a button on the steering wheel, we can control the "virtual clutch" feature for burnouts, clutch kicks, or just because! The MaxxECU, HTG GCU, and Turbolamik can "slip" the transmission from 0-100% just like a traditional clutch. This feature adds an entirely new dimension to automatic transmissions that has never been available before.

Comparing Capabilities

BMW DCT

The highest performance North/South oriented OEM gearbox available, bar none. The DCT can handle over 1200 ft/lbs of torque with just upgraded clutches.

We have logged shifts as fast as 25ms with these transmissions. They are right at home in track applications.

Can be controlled by the CANTCU and MaxxECU controllers.

ZF 8HP

One of the easiest to integrate transmission is the 8HP, and it comes with extreme performance unlike sloppy old-school auto boxes. Made in a variety of versions from many vehicle manufacturers such as BMW, Dodge, Jeep, Maserati, Jaguar, and more.

These transmissions are the most efficient automatic on the roads today and have very little parasitic loss. Torque converter lockup is solid at low RPMS and the car does not drive like it has a slushbox.

The Turbolamik, MaxxECU, and CANTCU all can control this amazing transmissions. Available in versions to hold anywhere from 150-1500HP.

VAG DSG

Bringing dual clutch performance to FWD and mid engine applications. The DSG is very similar to the BMW DCT and also made by Getrag. This transmission is famous from the VW track crowd, and has many drag racing records to its name.

The MaxxECU lineup is capable of controlling the DSG.

Choosing the Right Controller: Finding What Works Best for You

When it comes to selecting the right transmission controller, there’s no "wrong" choice—it’s all about finding what fits your ecosystem and preferences. The best controller for your application often depends on the ECU you’re using, and what software you are comfortable using.

Key Considerations

  1. Integration with Your ECU

    • Choose a transmission controller that integrates seamlessly with your ECU.

    • If you haven’t decided on an ECU yet, consider the MaxxECU, which can manage both engine and transmission simultaneously for streamlined control.

  2. Ease of Use

    • Your goal should be to select a system you can easily interface with and understand. This will allow you to maximize modern transmission shift speeds and achieve the smoothest ride with cut and blip tuning.

  3. Test Before You Commit

    • Download and explore the software for each controller you’re considering. Get a feel for the interface and choose the one you’re most comfortable working with.
